A few times a year there are boxing matches that set the whole boxing community aflutter with excitement and apprehension about who is going to win, and the bout coming up on November the 12th is one of those fights. The current super champion, Manny Pacquiao, is set to take on the challenger, Juan Manuel Marquez for the title of WBO World Welterweight champion of the world. The fight will take place at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States and will be broadcast on HBO pay per view. With a potential crowd of thousands and viewership at home in the millions, the fight is set to make the boxers and their promoters a good pile of money – something boxers have become very used to these days.
Most big name boxers can easily walk away from fights making well over ten million dollars. Some of the biggest names in the sport can make almost $30 million from one fight. The income these boxers make needs to be shared with a good number of people, like their management, promoters, producers, trainers and other support teams. Income comes largely from three sources. The first is the sponsors – the brands that sponsor the fight to receive logos and branding around the stadium that will be broadcast into millions of homes. The second is the ticket sales for fans to attend the match in person at the MGM Grand and the most profitable is the HBO pay per view sales. All of these incomes will be divided as arranged in the contracts.
